Detailed Descriptions
1st activity
Sailing skills training by using of a small RC model sailing boat
Training of tourists in sailing skills isn’t a new activity. The innovative element of this activity is the usage of a small RC model sailing boat.
At a suitable time, the skipper puts the RC model boat on the water. By using the RC model boat the skipper explains and demonstrates the main rules of sailing. The next step of the activity is to show and train the tourists on how to make jibe on board of the tourist boat.
For the successful organization of this activity, the skipper should be trained in the handling of an RC model boat. The RC model boat should be present on board.
This activity is suitable for sailing boats only. It can be added as the main element of the program of the boat trip.
We can expect at least 50% of the tourists to take part in this activity.
The tourists could be motivated to experience the sailing training by demonstrating them the pleasure of sailing with no engine sound and vibrations.
2nd activity
Prize games of innovative nature
The skipper should be able to organize effectively a few prize games on board. These games should be suitable for different age groups and adapted to the specific conditions on board.
It is recommended one of the games to be dedicated to the local culture and history. The role of the skipper would be to ask the tourists questions about local facts: sailing area; the name of the nearest city and what they know about it, other questions about the history of the region, etc. The difficulty level of the questions should range from easy to difficult.
For the successful organization of such games, the skipper should be well prepared in advance with all questions and answers.
A carefully prepared game could be a good option for entertainment onboard at any time. We can expect a big part of the tourists to take part in these games.
In order to motivate the tourists to participate actively at the games, the skipper will award prizes with reasonable value to all of them who give a correct answer.
3rd activity
How to do Sailing knots
Tying sailing knots is a very interesting activity which doesn’t require any considerable costs. The difficulty level of the knot types should be chosen in accordance with the age of the tourists. This activity can be done even by bad weather conditions.
For the successful organization of this activity, the skipper should be able to master a number of interesting sailing knots with a different level of difficulty. The materials needed for the activity are several ropes with a length of approx. 1 m and suitable diameter.
The How to do Sailing knots activity could be initiated by showing to the tourists some of the most interesting knots spontaneously and at a time chosen by the skipper.
We could expect a big part of the tourists to be willing to be involved in this activity. The tourists could be motivated by explaining to them how to apply the sailing knots they learned in their everyday life.
4th activity
How to set and give a throwing line and mooring ropes?
How to prepare and give throwing line/mooring rope correctly is an activity requiring some special skills. This is a very interesting and funny activity, and there would be a high number of participants.
For the successful organization of this activity, there should be a few extra throwing lines on the boat. For the mooring ropes, the tourists can use the ropes of the boat.
The skipper (or another crew member, if any) explains and shows to the tourists how to prepare a throwing line and throws the line into the sea. After that, the skipper starts training the tourists.
We can expect great interest and a high number of participants.
The tourists can be motivated to take part in this activity by the announcement that the best of them in the activity will give the first mooring rope when the trip is over.
5th activity
Kites on boat
This is a very engaging activity since there is almost always wind in the sea. It is recommended to prepare several kites in different colours and shapes. At a time chosen by the skipper, he makes a demonstration of how to fly a kite.
For the successful organization of this activity, a few kites should be placed on board in advance, and the skipper (or another crew member, if any) must be able to handle a kite.
This activity could be performed even when there is no wind. The movement of the boat would help the kites to fly.
The activity can become part of the program of any boat.
We can expect a highly positive reaction of tourists.
They can be easily motivated to take part in the activity once the skipper starts to fly the first kite.
6th activity
Two apps for mobile devices
The boat could sail in an area without internet coverage. The skipper should know in advance which these areas are. Once reaching such area, the skipper will suggest to the tourists to connect to the boat’s local Wi-Fi network and to download two apps.
The first app is about the cultural and historical heritage of the respective country. It could be designed as a quiz. The skipper could announce a prize for the tourist with the highest number of correct answers.
The second app will show navigation information about the boat.
For the successful organization of this activity, the boat should be equipped with a local Wi-Fi network, and both apps should be developed and uploaded to the network.
This activity could be offered at any time during the trip.
We could expect most of the tourists to be engaged with this activity.
The motivation of the tourists is easily achievable, especially if they wouldn’t have access to internet on their devices.
7th activity
Sun meditation
We all know the benefits of the meditation, and especially of the sun meditation. With a piece of relaxing music as a background, the tourists turn to the sun, close their eyes and listen to the instructions of the skipper.
For the successful organization of this activity, the skipper should learn in advance the steps of the meditation or simply read them during the activity. Relaxing music should be provided as well.
When offering this activity the skipper should take into consideration the age of the tourists.
By this activity, we could expect “antics” behaviour by some of the tourists (making jokes or funny comments, for example). The skipper should assess the situation and if necessary, to stop the meditation.
The skipper could motivate the tourists by explaining to them the benefits of sun meditation.
8th activity
Nautical name giving ceremony
This age-old seaman ritual carried out by crossing the Equator is very attractive. The skipper should be dressed as King Neptune, and one of the crew members or a tourist should play the role of Aphrodite. Each of the tourists should go down on their knees in front of King Neptune and follow his orders. After that, the ceremony continues with a ritual shaving of each tourist with a wooden razer and washing them with seawater. In the end, the tourist should drink a glass of seawater. King Neptune announces their nautical name and gives them a certificate showing their new name.
For the successful organization of this activity, the skipper should have the necessary costumes and certificates on board.
This activity is suitable for any boat and can be added as the main element of the program of the boat trip.
The tourists will have a lot of fun because it is a very interesting experience.
There will be no need to motivate the tourists by any special means since this will be the most enjoyable and unforgettable activity on board.
